25 year-old 'Scary' Mary Perkins is both the only female member of the Crusty Demons as well as the world's number one female freestyle motocross rider.

Being the highest profiled female rider in the sport worldwide it is a novelty to see Mary in action. Mary first became involved with the Crusty Demons when she took part in the East Coast Carnage tour in 2006.

Residing in Papamoa on the east coast of the North Island, NZ, Mary was first introduced to a motorbike - a CT90 for riding around the family farm - at the age of 14. Four years later she began competing in motocross, and later moved into freestyle motocross.

Some of Mary's career highlights include: first place in the 2006 Tarawera 100 four hour enduro race; second overall in the 2005 NZ Motocross Championship; first in the both the 2004 and 2005 NZ four-stroke championship and; a Genies World Record for the largest motorbike jump by a female which still stands at 159.4 feet.

In 2006, May also became the first female to complete an AJ Hackett bungy off Auckland's Harbour Bridge aboard a motorbike.

In addition to last year's Crusty Demons tour, Mary has also performed at a range of events and festivals including Big Boys Toys 2006, the 2006 Waitakere Guy Fawkes show, Parachute Music Festival in both 2005 and 2006, and Mount Fest 2005.

Mary sustained a serious head injury while on the recent NZ Crusty Tour so after some time out of the sport her aim now is to get her confidence level back to where is was and learn some new tricks for the coming season.
